Vale Doug Engelbart

Doug Engelbart, best known for his role in designing the computer mouse, died today after a long and richly creative life (see here for a nice obituary report).

During the early years of large scale computer take up in New Zealand and Australia I used to enjoy reading accounts of the work and lives of pioneers within domains we take for granted today. Engelbart's story, largely on account of his gutsiness in relentlessly pursuing the practical realisation of ideas, was always one of my favourites.
