Recent stats on blogs online
Cyberatlas has just released statistics on the numbers of active weblogs online. Robyn Greenspan reports that the overwhelming majority of weblogs are in English, and are hosted by three key services (i.e., Livejournal, Blogger/Blogspot and Diaryland--and all based in the US, I believe). Interestingly enough, the next largest language groups in the blogosphere are Portuguese, followed by Polish, Farsi and French (in that order). Blogging appears to be crossing traditional access borders where new techs are concerned, too:

Interestingly, the majority (60 percent) of bloggers are dialing up to access their online journals, and more than half (57 percent) have a household income below $60,000 per year. Jupiter also found that blogging is split evenly among the genders...

IM meets Blogger
Interesting developments in the merging of instant messaging and blogging applications are reported by Christopher Saunders on IM Plant.com. Saunders describes how IM interactive agents, or "bots" (e.g., Bloggerbot), can be configured to receive an instant message from a blog owner and to post this message to the owner's blog. This means that Howard Rheingold's "just in time and just in place" predictions for mobile internet use are fast coming to pass.

Just a few lines from Glasgow ahead of trying to make the link up during Michele's presentation of our paper. Keeping fingers crossed that the internet link will be OK. The cam is set up ready to go, but there are a few doubts about the sound. We'll see. Am looking forward to being at least a peripheral presence in the event.
