Jim Gee's recent book on "What video games have to teach us about learning and literacy" (Palgrave) is a must read. Jim's recent article for Wired Online can be found in issue 11.05.
This blog has been created to provide a resource for discussing, showcasing, and exploring everyday forms of literacy of whatever kind. It is based on a much wider concept of literacy than the narrow and limited view -- encoding and decoding printed text -- that dominates formal education. Instead, it aims to recognise and deal with diverse kinds of texts that are produced and consumed 'everyday' within conventional and virtual spaces. The blog coincides with two recent books that we have published on literacy: "New Literacies: Changing Knowledge and Classroom Learning" (Open University Press) and "Cyber Spaces / Social Spaces" (Palgrave).
